Positive results

The company reported results from exploratory wells N°10 and N°11 at its Rincón Oeste lithium project in Salta. In the first well the samples collected ranged between 245 and 366 mg/l of lithium and in the second one between 246 and 344 mg/l.

Argentina Lithium & Energy Corp, a member of the Grosso Group, released the results of exploratory wells N°10 and N°11 of its Rincón Oeste lithium project, located in Salta. In that sense, they emphasised that the samples collected in a section of 295.5 metres of the first well ranged between 245 and 366 milligrams per litre (mg/l) of lithium. While samples collected from a 321-metre section of the N°11 well ranged from 246 to 344 mg/l of lithium.

Miles Rideout, the company’s vice president of exploration, explained that the tenth exploration well was sited to test the continuity of the brine aquifer as drilling extends eastward into the main salar basin. “These results demonstrate strong, continuous grades and exceptional interval duration,” he said.

In the same vein, he detailed that for the N°11 well they moved 2.7 kilometres to the southeast to test the salar in the southern and eastern part of the main block at the Rincon Oeste project.

Rideout said that “this produced another long interval of concentrated brines and recovered cores containing sodium chloride (fractured crystalline halite) and thick, poorly cemented sediments, which may be excellent formations for pumping potential”.

On this process, he reported that they have not been able to reach the bottom of the basin formation in well N°11. However, he warned that the company plans to extend the ongoing drilling to greater depths to be able to drill the sidetrack and define the bottom of the aquifer.

The project
The Rincon Oeste initiative, located approximately 150 kilometres from the town of San Antonio de los Cobres, covers 5198.8 hectares of the Salar Basin, which consists of three blocks of properties adjacent to Rio Tinto’s Rincon project. Drill holes N°10 (RW-DDH-011) and N°11 (RW-DDH-011) represent the first two holes of the six-well programme planned for the Rinconcita II property.

In turn, the Rinconcita II property represents a continuous extension of the western sandy basin at Rincon West to the east over the Rincon Salar.
