Bank raids

On early May, Judge Pablo Yadarolá ordered court raids on some 20 banks to investigate suspected irregularities in import and export transactions, especially involving electronics, to obtain over US$700 million from the Central Bank at favourable exchange rates for highly profitable resale on parallel markets. Customs, AFIP tax bureau and Border Guide officers, usimg police dogs, carried aout the raids on May 10, looking for fake import and export companies with 46 firms under investigation. The charges are “aggravated contraband, tax evasion and money laundering”.
